Every once in a while a big company comes out with someone so stupid that you just have to laugh (Take internet explorer for instance). It spends big money to create and market a product. It takes a lot of work to hype it up and get it enough exposure to become popular. This is not that kind of product.
Songsmith reminds me of what great toys should look and feel like. They should be open-ended, encourage exploration and creativity. Great toys should also be a lot of fun and Songsmith is just that.
Within minutes of downloading the trial version (good for 6hrs), you’ll be singing away with your own back up band playing like a cheap lounge act. Lacking the will to terrorize my neighbors or render dead and lifeless any plants or animals in the nearby vicinity, I did not, in fact, sing.
I got the vocal tracks from some old Abba tunes, the theme from Bonanza and some of those red hot hits Barney the purple dinosaur used to sing. For the ultimate test, I used the vocal from Mr Rodgers Neighborhood singing “Won’t you be my yo yo neighbor, boom boom”. That Mr Rodgers rocks on Songsmith!
For a mere $5 I will send you Barney the dinosaur techno hip hop dance party album (ok, well, not really), but if you were here right now you’d totally laugh at it.

If you’re into this kind of music, then you’ll need to go over to Amazon and get the album from Richard Cheese (yep really!).
